Favorite Baby Things

It's been just over 3 weeks (how time flies when you're not sleeping!) and here are our favorite baby items thus far:

Moby
Anders loves his Moby. I use it around the house, on walks, and especially when shopping. It's wonderfully helpful when you need to pick up groceries and need to have your cart carseat free. So far our favorite is the Newborn Hug Hold, especially since Anders is too small for most other wrap styles-he's only 7.5 lbs at 3 weeks! The Moby offers him some up close time with me or S and allows for us to be hands free around the house.

Dr. Brown's Bottles
After 2.5 weeks of trying our hearts out, we have discovered that Anders is not a boob man. This means he's getting both breastmilk and formula (yep, he needs to eat!) from a bottle. We love the Dr. Brown's bottles. which our pediatrician recommended, because they minimize spitup and gas. Yes, they are the Cadillac of the bottle world, and they are so worth the investment!
Gerber Cloth Diapers
While S and I are not daring enough to do cloth diapers, we LOVE Gerber's cloth diapers for our burp cloths. The birdseye weave are our favorite, they are pretty darn absorbent and they are large enough to really protect your clothing.

Fisher Price My Little Lamb Swing
This sucker is like baby crack for Anders. He fights so hard to stay awake and constantly looses the battle. We do about 1 hour/day in the swing and that is a fabulous hour for me! The My Little Lamb Swing moves out like no other and we thought it would be too fast for him, but I guess he loves to rock out at fast paces (perhaps it reminds him of our 4 mile walks when I was pregnant?) Here he is having lost his most recent "I want to stay awake and scream" battle with the Swing, and yes, those are dino toes on his sleeper:

And there you have it! I do love our Boppy too, but A is waking up and it's time to go to Babies R Us.

Do I Miss Being Pregnant???

Absolutely not! Granted, I had a great and very easy pregnancy (aside from Wee Man's karate kicks that lasted from 30 weeks-delivery in my right ribcage, the insane heart burn and the 4 weeks of contractions at the end) however, there is very little I miss about being pregnant.

Last night I discovered the ONE thing I miss. Ice Cream. I hadn't truly eaten ice cream since I was 12 since the heavy cream would make me sick. Occasionally I would break down and get a scoop or two of Ben & Jerry's (typically after copious amounts of gin and vodka) and I would be so sick after.

Enter week 16 of pregnancy. S & I were down at his parent's home in Florida and I got an awful craving for peach ice cream. So, tums in hand, we headed out to buy some peach ice cream from the local shop. And, I didn't get sick! I ate the whole 3 scoops and survived!

Thus began the obsession with eating as much ice crea as I possibly could. While in Florida we all took a late night run to Cold Stone and back in Vermont I was able to down copious amounts of Ben & Jerry's Half Baked and One Sweet Whirled. Once we moved to Nebraska I sadly discovered that there was a Cold Stone all of 5 miles from our home.

And now that I'm not pregnant I can no longer stomach ice cream. Thank you B&J's cookie dough for reminding me last night.

Dislike.

Week Goals

Here are my goals for this week:

1) Paint our bathroom ceiling white. Right now it's the same blue as the walls and I cannot stand it. It will be white, and it will be done this week.

2) Paint my toenails. Totally mundane and silly, but it needs to be done, desperately.

3) List the obscene pile of "stuff" in our office on eBay. Including, but not limited to, baby girl clothes (I SO thought Anders was a girl!), curtains left in our place by the previous owners, books and some misc holiday decor items. Oh, how I love eBay!

4) Buy Anders a few more sleep gowns. Wee man is not a swaddle fanatic. In fact, here's what our swaddles turn into every night:

He loves sleep gowns, and I love the ones from Miniwear that Babies R Us carries. Anders is about 1 week away from actually fitting into their newborn size.

5) Iron S's work shirts. Poor guy is down to 1 shirt as of this morning, and I have been promising to iron the rest, which are hanging clean and ready in our laundry room, for about 3 days now.

6) Vaccum the Volvo. It's getting a little too scary for my taste.

7) Clean out my desk. Again, turning into a scary situation since all of our paperwork, mail, etc... has wound up in piles there since Anders arrived.

8) Make some scones. I love scones, especially with some Devonshire cream on the side, yum! Think week I'm thinking it's an almond & chocolate chip scones for S and bing cherry scones for me.

And that's all for now!

Once Upon a Time...

I was a vegetarian. I also thought spending more than $10 for a bottle of wine was extreme. And, occasionally, I would drink Budlight and Keystone in social events (GASP!).
Obviously, over the past 3 years things have changed, a lot.

Here's our Sunday night dinner:

Yep, you're looking at Ribs. Yummmm....
Margaritas with our favorite Baby Monitor. (Benefits of not being able to breastfeed....)

Thanks to my Dad for his company's fabulous BBQ sauce!

Hello Ribs (yes they were served with other sides, don't worry Mom)

Anders at 3 weeks

Here's Anders at 3 weeks old. We are pretty convinced that he's going to be the most serious and critical kid in his kindergarten class. I wonder where he gets that from...

The past year...

In a desperate attempt to keep up with all that has happened since last July we have decided to start a blog. Yes, M&S are entering into the modern world, finally! I'm going to say it all began with getting an IPod Touch and a Flip camera for Christmas. We were suddenly thrust into the world of touch screens and itty bitty screens, and now we have continued our exciting technological advancement with "smart" phones. While we may only be as up to date as 2008, we are getting there!

Here's the highlights of the past year:

Goodbye Vermont...

Hello Nebraska!

We Had a Baby, Anders Daniel L, 06.04.10:
And that's all of our big changes...for this week at least! On our docket for new things to do: some home remodeling (still!), more landscaping projects, and enjoying our son. S would love to get him into hockey skates this fall, but I think we may have to wait until he can stand on his own for that one!
